In the tourist towns of the Great Smoky Mountains there are several icons on the Tennessee side: Dolly Parton, bears, and hillbillies.
As for the hillbilly, while some people find it traumatizing, some of the people of the area have embraced the term. There is Hillbilly Golf, Hillbilly Restaurant, Hillbilly Hideaway, the Hillbilly Hilton, and the Hill-Billy Village. And the gift shops will let you take home some “Hillbilly Novelties”. They include a can of Whup Ass with a lid that says “Don’t Make Me Open This”, a Women Getter (a wooden mallet), and more.
