Kenny Hill disappeared in 2000 after getting evicted from a plot of land for not mowing. He left behind a yard full of sculptures he worked on for over a decade. His parting words were painting a sign — Welcome to Hell, Here — and he knocked the head off of a sculpture of Jesus.
Hill did not talk about the meaning of the sculptures. Unable to find him, the Kohler Foundation purchased the plot and sculptures and made it a gift to nearby Nicholls State University. The Chauvin Sculpture Garden is now fenced in with a visitor center across the street.
